Beast of the Beast 2 - Team tournament & Chaos Dwarves

Beast of the Beast 2

Beast of the Beast 2

It was the day before Mothering Sunday and all the young offspring gathered together to play some Blood Bowl. Justin, the tournament organiser had some last minute panic to deal with as the venue double booked with a wedding party, and strangely, the wedding won! 😆

We ended up playing at Mrs Justin's school... which actually turned out to be rather a good venue, with an airy bright ceiling, plenty of space, complete with tea urn and doughnuts, a prizes table and of course the HQ for Justin, and then there were the sponsors, including BlackOrcDown and ShePrints3D. The school was a 5 minute walk from a shopping centre, complete with Fish'n'Chip shop and a Greggs. All a Blood Bowler needs!

There were also some great freebies including dice, tokens and a printed random miniature, all to go with the "Beast" merch from the LGT that Justin ran.

Team Redshirts

It was just a trio of us today... LastTimeLord was saving himself for the UKTC in York in April. I was taking what I considered to be a strong roster, with Halkflem and Chaos Dwarves. Howling Griffon was taking Ogres with Griff and Mr_Frodo had Old World Alliance with Griff also. Yes, it was one of those "Star" tournaments. Whatever happened here, I had made a promise to myself to not go to any more solo-tournaments that had a liberal access to Stars... but I couldn't pass up a Team event with my mates.

Unusual Rules

There were some random pitch rolls and effects as well as an events 'bingo' for some added interest, which were supported by some nice freebie tokens.

Extra roll Bingo

Anyway, let's get into it...

Game One vs Lyraciun - Underworld & Morg'n'Thorg

Lyraciun

Pitch Roll - 5 - Sandwich Pitch - Minus 1 for Crowd Surfs injury rolls. I got +2 to fans (6-1) and it was Perfect Blood Bowl weather... and I won the KO and opted to receive.

Chaos Dwarves vs Underworld

Turn 1/0 - Michael got +2 Snotlings from Swarming, and Hakflem used all his agility to roll 1 to pick up the ball... grrr. Nothing much happened in the Underworld turn, but we managed to hurt a Snotling in turn 2/1 (1-0). Hakflem at least picked up the ball this time! Turn 3/2 saw Hakflem making his way up the right wing... and by turn 4/3 the Hakflem and the ball were in the RH corner. I managed to delay for one more turn before being forced to score in turn 5/4. 1-0 (1-0).

2x Snotlings joined the Underworld in their drive... and the kick off was Time Out! and the clocks moved on a turn. Turn 6/6 saw a handoff to the two-headed Gutter Runner (effectively a star himself) rolled a 1, but rerolled a 6, and a Skaven Blitzer KO'd a Chaos Dwarf. We blitzed Morg in turn 7/6. Turn 7/7 saw all the Underworld rerolls used up by a Linerat rolling a both down block and rerolling.

We started turn 8/7 and hurt a Goblin (2-0) and Hakflem blitzed the Gutter Runner after making a 4+ dodge and the ball spills. However, the Gutter Runner got back up, dodged, picked up the ball and scored. 1-1 (2-0).

The second half began with 2x Snotlings from Swarming for the 3rd time in a row, and our Chaos Dwarf recovered from his Knock Out. And Cheering Fans on kick off. Underworld rolled Trap Doors (which played no part in the half). The ball landed in the clawed hands of the Gutter Runner, and turn 0/1 began with Morg KO'd a Hob Goblin.

Turn 1/1 saw a KO'd Snotling, and turn 2/2 saw a hurt Snotling (3-0) and a Stunned Troll. Turn 2/3 saw a Snotling fail a dodge and get knocked out, and turn 3/3 saw a Bull KO a Linerat.

By this stage you may have noticed that the injury count was ridiculously low given it was Dwarves with Tackle vs a lot of Stunty players... My Chaos Dwarves regularly failed to take them down, break their armour or do anything more than a stun... it was ridiculous. That being said, Morg was having a poor blocking game given his +2 Mighty Blow.

Turn 3/4 saw Morg double skull and fail his loner roll. Sadly he didn't die!

However, turn 5/5 saw a controversial moment. It was the case of the Hob Goblin that I failed to turn back around last turn... but Michael wasn't sure. In the end Michael suggested rolling for it and I failed... A 2x dice block with the Hob Goblin would have cleared a Blitz path for my Bull on the ball carrier (Gutter I think)... so I tried a 4+ dodge... failed...rerolled... failed. It was effectively game over at that point...

We got vengeance on a Linerate when a Chaos Dwarf got frustrated. (4-0)...

But then we had a glimmer of a chance in turn 7/7... Hakflem got a blitz on the ball carrier... and rolled double pushes! 😕

The Underworld scored in turn 7/8 1-2 (4-0)... and after feeling a bit sorry for myself we inflicted one more token casualty (5-0)... and the game finished with me securing 3 whole points 😭

At this stage I can't remember exactly how my team mates did, but I think they both won because I remember thinking it was a Team round win.

Game Two vs CAnderson - Dwarves

CAnderson

It was a dwarf-off vs Connor. The pitch was "Elf Turf" (minus 1 to armour roll - I think for failed dodges etc). It was Perfect Weather, 1 vs 2 fans and I lost the Kick Off roll and had to kick.

Chaos Dwarves vs Dwarves
Action shot (as I forgot the photo at the start!)

Turn 0/0 - Blitz! The Chaos Dwarves punched a hole in the centre, and pressed the aggressive attack. It paid of handsomely in turn 0/1 as despite picking up the ball, the Dwarf Runner pushed a little too hard and fell over, spilling the ball. Turn 1/1 saw Hakflem sweep in, pick up the ball and make his GFI's to push high up the pitch out of reach, but we decided to score by turn 3/3. 1-0 (0-0).

The next Dwarf drive began with a Blitz! on kick off again, but my Bull Centaur fell over... so not as good as the first one. By turn 5/5 we tried to sack the ball carrier but we rolled pushes (I hate rolling pushes on key dice!). Annoyingly, we lost a Bull Centaur to injury in turn 5/6... but nothing else happened in the half as we defended solidly. 1-0 (0-1).

After a Chaos Dwarf failed a KO roll to come back, the second half began with a Blitz! for the Dwarves this time. Hakflem picked up the ball on the left hand side. By turn 4/3 Hakflem scored 2-0 (0-1).

After some changing weather, and the ball was kicked deep. Nothing much happened thereafter apart from hurting a dwarf lineman (1-1) and the game finished 2-0 (1-1).

Game Three vs JMFing's Snotlings & Hakflem

JMFing

The pitch was a Beer Tent which was +1 to crowd surf injuries. The fans roll was 1 vs 2. And the game started in Perfect Weather.

The Snotlings got four extra players for Righteous Rookies.

I didn't take many notes, as from turn to turn it just got worse. In summary I tried to keep clear of the Snotling Fungus Flinger but he seemed to have laser guided sight and KO'd a Chaos Dwarf in turn 0/1, and then injured another in turn 2/3. The Snotling Hakflem sauntered in to score in turn 7/8 with no official casualties inflicted by either side as my blocking results were even worse than the first game vs the Underworld.

The second half began, and in turn 2/1 we hurt a Snotling Runner (1-0), but by turn 2/2 the dwarf Hakflem was blitzed by the Snotling Hakflem (after some 2+ dodging assists from the Snotlings) after the Flinga killed himself.

By turn 3/2 I had 5x of my team in the injury box, none of them counting as SPP injuries. It was a simple case of being knocked over a fouled with abandon and the game ended 0-2 (2-0).

John was supportive throughout as he observed the catastrophe of my dice and I had to suck up the game and congratulate my opponent, as he just had a flawless game.

Results

I finished a lowly 36th out of 48, with the worst position of my team. But I didn't let the team down as we all seemed to have shockers, finishing 13th out of 16... and our title properly gone.

Individual Standings

Team Standings

There was a well stocked raffle before the awards ceremony, and one coach (who did the same last year) walked away with the bulk of the prizes as ticket after ticket came up... but he did buy £30's worth, so fair play.

I won a prize on the ShePrints3D Facebook site, and got a quality Rat Ogre star player. Awesome!

Thanks to all my opponents, my team mates, friendly faces and to Justin and the sponsors and helpers for such a well run tournament! Maybe next time I'll put in a better performance... hopefully the Stars will be turned down a few notches!
