COSH Team Tournament & Mandalorian Humans
COSH Team Tournament
Just a quick write up on the pre-Christmas teams tournament held at 4TK in Colchester, hosted by Sam & Courtney. This was a really fun event with everyone turning up in Christmas jumpers, Santa hats and even a full elf costume.
Tournament Rules
The TO had gone a step further to differentiate this tournament from so many others. For a start, this was a pairs tournament. As the Redshirts, our usual squad players were either already in other pairs or weren't available, so Tom (aka Cudasquarius) kindly stepped into the breach. He deserves special thanks too as he supplied some of the 'dice' prizes for the tournament.
This was a One Day / Four Game tournament. For full rules, see here, however, in short, aside from the standard rules, for each round, the pair of players would choose from either a Megapack Star or a Negatrait to affect their team. This was chosen in secret for a big reveal once each player knew what race they were facing.
The Stars were: Akhorne the claw squirrel, Barak with his cannon, Fungus the Loon with his ball & chain or Rodney Roachbait with his fishing rod. The Negatraits were: D3x Loner (2+), 1x Animal Savagery, D3x Animosity or D2x No Hands.
Team Redshirts (Mr_Frodo, Cudasquarius, Howlinggriffon & Wotfudboy) rolled off, with the two highest rolls pairing up... Mr_Frodo paired with Cudasquarius, and Howlinggriffon paired with me (Wotfudboy).
It was Howlinggriffon's 100th tournament, so he specially commissioned some dice to mark the occasion. We handed out the red dice to each opponent, and kept the silver dice to roll ourselves. Our opponents also received a Christmas chocolate. Awww, aren't we nice!
I'm Santa, Elf! Do as you're told! 😁 |
Wotfuboy's Human Roster
I went for a more hard-hitting human roster, with 4x rerolls. Darren, who also took Humans, went for more players, less rerolls and Leader.
For those that were interested in the painted team, I went for a Mandalorian theme. I'd painted most of the team back in 2022 for the LGT, but hadn't painted the 4x Catchers, 1x Thrower and 2x Halflings, so as I needed a Cather and additional Thrower for this roster I got them whole squad completed.
Mandalorian themed Human Blood Bowl Team - This is the way! |
The Catchers were painted in honour of Bo-Katan Kryze. The Blitzers are of course Boba Fett, with the Linemen as the Mandalorian. The Throwers were painted as the Armourer (or Armorer if you are American!), with a halfling each to match. Courtney suggested I should have painted a Halfling up as Grogu, but I didn't have a head for that!
Match One vs Knucklesammich's Lizards
vs Millenial Falcons |
I was up against Ben's Lizards. We did the Mega/Nega reveal. I had chosen Animosity. Ben had fielded the dauntless squirrel - Akhorne.
Knucklesammich |
I had more Fans, and the Weather roll was Sweltering Heat! The Lizards should like that! I lost the kick off, but Ben had faith in his Skinks so selected me to Receive.
Humans vs Lizards |
We lined up, and I had two players with Animosity... as you can see from the picture above, one Lineman and my Catcher hated the other team members! Turn One saw a Quick Snap (5 players).
The Humans collected the ball towards the back of the field, but we then suffered two big hits in a turn - a KO'd lineman and then the Krox injured a human Guard Blitzer! Ouch!! After that, we didn't hang around. The Catcher made a break for it with the ball into the Lizards half whilst a Mandalorian lineman KO'd a Saurus. By turn 4/3 we were 1-0 up and (0-1) on casualties.
A changing weather roll changed it to Perfect Weather, but 1 player from each side had been affected by Sweltering Heat - A Saurus and a Tackle Blitzer (doh! - those Skinks were pleased!). In the meantime a Human lineman failed to recover from his Knock Out blow, but the Saurus did recover. This wasn't good!
We managed to KO Akhorne in turn 5/4 and sacked the Skink ball carrier in turn 7/6, only to see the ball bounce and get caught by another skink in four tackle zones!! That being said, we held our defence and kept the score at 1-0, but suffered the loss of our resident one-turner Halfling (0-2).
The second half began with Changing Weather again, but all Knock Outs recovered for both teams. I had 2x Animosity players again. So far this hadn't been a problem!
Akhorne decided a risky foul on a Lineman but got sent off rolling a double 5 on the armour, with Ben rolling a 1 on Argue the Call, so sheepishly had to sit in the stands with the fans.
We were on course for changing our defence into an attack, but the Ogre needed to mark some Lizard, but tripped over in his haste, (loner reroll failed the 4+). This was the first reroll I had used all game!
However, we decided not to press any further and held out for a 1-0 (0-3) win.
Darren won 4-0 (1-2) vs IKnights's Dwarves - A Team Win!
Match Two vs Greenskinphil's Vampires
vs Team Worry about the youngster |
We were up against father and future-son-in-law team mates. I decided to field Akhorne, hoping his Dauntless would counter the Str4 Vampires... while Chris had Animosity on his Vampires.
Greenskinphil |
I had less fans, but Perfect Weather, and won the kick off roll and decided to receive. 3x Animosity - Both Vampire Runners got Animosity, as well as a Thrall.
Humans vs Dwarves |
Turn One saw the Humans inflict a casualty on the Thrall with Animosity (1-0), but the Vampires got revenge by KOing a Lineman. There was quite a bit of pushing and shoving, but we scored in turn 4/3. 1-0 (1-0).
Chris rolled 3x Animosity again... this time on a Thrall, Thrower and Runner! Time Out moved the clock forward (turn 5/4). However, despite rolling ones, and a particularly important snaked Hypno-gaze, the Vampires equalised. We managed to hurt a Runner (2-0) but unfortunately she regenerated.
We made an absolute stonker of a play with a one dice block, some 4+ 3+ dodging and pick up and hand off, and a GFI, but failed the final 3+ dodge to score... if we had, it would have been amazing!!
However, the half ended 1-1 (2-0).
The second half began with a High Kick, and the swift Runners scored in turn 1/2 to make it 1-2 (2-0).
Animosity hadn't been a factor as yet, but the drive began with 2x Vampires with Animosity. Turn 3/2 saw the Ogre hurt a Thrall (3-0). We did manage to claw back an equaliser to make it 2-2 (3-0) in turn 7, but then set up completely forgetting the Vampires had Frenzy to possibly engineer a one turn touchdown. Fortunately for me, the dice went against Chris here and the match finished 2-2 (4-0).
Darren drew 2-2 (3-0) vs Joseph's Vampires. A team Draw!
Match Three vs Vulturesquadron's Orcs
vs Team Besters - no Besters were harmed in the taking of this photo! |
Okay, let's explain this. We were facing Team Besters... but Besters unfortunately could not make it, so Jack teamed up with Nippy... and kept the name! Jack took Akhorne with his Orcs and I had Barak (some Armour might be welcome against Orcs!).
Vulturesquadron |
We had the same fans, Perfect Weather and I won the kick off roll and received.
Classic match up - Humans vs Orcs |
As you would expect in a race grudge match like this, the Humans and Orcs pushed and countered, but a hand off to a Human Blitzer saw the beginning of a break away. The Mighty Blow Blitzer hurt an Orc Blitzer in doing so too! (1-0). Turn 4/3 saw us kill Akhorne too, (2-0) and we scored. Barak was sent off, but he had done his bit, holding up the defensive line. 1-0 (2-0).
Turn 4/4 saw a deep kick to the back right, and by turn 5/5 the Orcs had used up all their rerolls, and this didn't help their advance. The half ended 1-0 (2-0).
Unfortunately the second half saw the ball spill off the pitch and the Orcs made a steady drive up the field, making a couple of casualties along the way, scoring in turn 7/8 - 1-1 (2-2).
We had a chance with a Throw Team Mate. We made the pick up, GFI and hand off. The Ogre made a good throw, but the scatter brought the Halfling backwards and out of range. Particularly frustrating as he landed perfectly!
Darren lost 0-2 (0-3) vs Nippy's Wood Elves. A team Loss!
Match Four vs MEvans's Dwarves
vs Name to be Confirmed... yes, that was their name! |
For this game vs the Dwarves I had No Hands and Mark had brought the Gnome Fisherman star - Rodney Roachbait.
Mevans |
We had the same number of fans as each other, had Perfect Weather and I lost the kick off roll and was asked to kick.
Humans vs Dwarves |
My Mighty Blow Blitzer had No Hands. The Humans looked at each other in fear as the Dwarves fielded a Death Roller. However, they shouldn't have been worried as it rolled a Skull and Both Down and then failed it's Loner 5+ roll... and the Dwarves hadn't picked up the ball yet!
Turn 2/2 saw my Thrower hurt a Linedwarf (1-0) and we sacked the ball carrier whilst most of his team mates were tied up on around the centre-field & LoS. Turn 3/3 saw the handless Mighty Blow Human Blitzer hurt the Troll Slayer (2-0) and we managed to score in turn 4/4 - 1-0 (2-0). This saw the Death Roller sent off.
The Dwarves countered by KOing a Lineman, but the half finished 1-0 (2-0).
The second half began - Much to the incredulity of the Human team, they lined up 11 players vs 9. It was a case of keeping hold of the ball and then hoping for a breakaway score. We managed this in turn 5/4 but not before suffering a human Lineman casualty 2-0 (2-1). And that's how the game finished as the Humans defended stoically against the Dwarves.
Darren won 2-1 (2-2) vs Wabe's Old World Alliance. A team Win!
