Intro
From the depths of SCS Sam and Myrmedon (the alter egos of Sam and Courtney) comes COSH Bowl IX - The Rise of the Hammer. Fortunately, the most that came out of those dark depths was the introduction of "Fish Man" and "Stabby Sam" as Ringers (not Star Players!). "What's that all about?" I pretend to hear you ask. Well... according to them:
At the start of any drive in a match a coach may chose to deploy one of the following two ringers, once a ringer has been deployed the other ringer will no longer be available for this match. A ringer counts as one of your eleven players that you set up with, and like a star player you may not use an appocathry on a ringer. Ringers are common so both teams can field the same ringer at the same time, and if one coach chooses one of the ringers they only make the other ringer unavailable to themselves not their opponent. Look after your ringer you only get one a match so if you let him get injured he won't be available until the next match. There is a caveat - if you deploy a ringer you will lose 5 points for this match regardless of the outcome(down to a minimum of zero)Fish Man, 6, 3, 4+, 6+, 9+ - Diving Tackle, Jump up, Pogo Stick, Very Long Legs.

Stabby Sam, 6, 3, 3+, 6+, 8+ - Shadowing, Stab.
The rest of the tournament rules were as you would expect, with 1.15K in the pot to spent, a tiered system, and 4 games in one day. I have mixed feelings about 4 games in one day... Cons: 4 games is non-stop action in one day, combined with 4 hours of driving in the day, it can be a tough one. Pros: 3-game tournaments are usually settled by bonus points and/or strength of schedule.
Khorne
After being a little bit proud of how my Khorne team came out, but it seemed silly just to field them in one tournament to date and they were hovering on a paltry 150.71 rating. I knew they could do better.
Trouble is, with the Games Workshop box, it came with only 2x Khorngors, and the roster I wanted to field had 3x Khorngors. I had to borrow a Pestigor from my Nurgle team.
And with that, on with the games...
Game One vs jauntychuffblast's Underworld Denizens
Jason has been playing for about a year and his Underworld Denizens team (a mix of Snotlings, Goblins, Skaven and a Rat Ogre) were cooly-painted to match the pitch in their vibrancy. The game got underway with the same number of fans and in Perfect Weather. Jason won the kick result and nominated Khorne to receive.
The game got underway, retrieving the ball from deep and then getting stuck into the Underworld. This was all after Officious Ref got a Snotling sent off. The Khorne then quickly dispatched a Goblin to the injury box (1-0).
I then remembered to take the photo above!
We got up to the end zone by turn 8/7 and scored, inflicting just the one casualty, although a Skaven managed to dodge and die, so effectively, with the sending off, the Underworld were 3x players down.
The second half began Rat Ogre killing a Bloodletter (1-1). But then the Underworld casualties started to roll in and by the time we secured the ball and scored a 2nd Touch Down, the Underworld had 6 casualties inflicted on them. The match finished 2-0 (6-1).
Game Two vs Soultide's Chaos Renegades
Next up was Richard's Chaos Renegades. Again, we rolled matching fans and played in Perfect Weather. This time I lost the kick roll and was nominated to Kick.
As you can see, the match began with the ball landing by the line of scimmage. The Renegades moved to secure it. And then things started to get tasty as (spoiler alert) for the one and only time of the weekend did something other than stand there and be mad - yes, he outright killed the Troll and it failed to regenerate. However, this didn't prevent the Renegades from going 0-1 (1-1) by turn 4/5.
From the kick off, the Renegades Orc received the Pro skill and by turn 6/7 the Ogre killed my Bloodspawn. However, we had pressured the Renegades to score earlier than they would have liked and that left us 4 turns to score. We engineered an equaliser after surfing the Ogre to the KO box. 1-1 (1-2).
We inflicted a casualty on the Renegades on the LoS (2-2). However, two more turns led to the Renegades inflicting two more casualties on the Khorne, which put us under more pressure to score in turn 6/5 2-1 (2-4). Richard was unable to open up our defences or inflict any more casualties, and the match finished with a win for the Khorne!
Game Three vs Skaggi's Black Orcs
The Black Orcs lined up with 3x Mighty Blow and 2x Stand Firm Black Orcs along with 1x Sneaky Git Goblin. I forget the other skill/s. I had less fans under Perfect Weather and won the kick off and decided to Receive.
The Khorne got underway but as usual the Bloodspawn rolled 1's. Miles's Black Orcs responded by killing a Marauder and KOing my Guard Khorngor. This was already going to be a tough ask with two players down. However, we pushed through and scored and the TTM failed. 1-0 (0-2).
The second half led to the Black Orcs pushing for an early score in turn 3/4, 1-1 (1-2). We were under pressure with the ball but with a little back and forth in a tight game it was one set of dice that decided the game. After my SureHands Khorngor got marked by both Stand Firm Black Orcs. We moved to prone one of them, but then I had the option of blitzing my way out of the situation with an assist. Both Down and Push... no good. So, I had a choice: reroll the blitz result or dodge away. In hindsight I made the wrong decision. I rerolled the blitz. Double skulls. D'Oh! And that was the game. The Black Orcs collected the ball after stunning two more Khorne players and strolled in for the winner 1-2 (1-2). Ah well. The dream had ended. Miles deserved the win and had played well. I thought I was deserving of a draw, but hey.
Game Four vs Chaotica87's Norse
OMG - A Blizzard! No more Perfect Weather... Again, snowing on equal number of fans... but the Norse, combined with Drunkard would now need a 4+ to Rush (aka GFI). This was going to be interesting!
Then we rolled for the kick, and it was Changing Weather... back to Perfect Weather. Oh well. It was briefly exciting! 😂
And then, my Bloodspawn rolled both down/skull, failed the Loner reroll and KO'd himself.
Despite receiving and being up against mostly AV 8+, we just couldn't score or injure anything... and the half ended 0-0 (0-1). However, we had filled up the Norse KO box, and by not scoring, it was 9 vs 8 even with the Norse subs bench coming into play.
We managed to get the ball off the viking ball-players and just about managed to score and win the game, 1-0 (2-2).
It was a very tight game and Brendon was a gentleman throughout and probably a draw was a more deserved outcome.
Results
Finishing on 3 wins and a loss was better than I expected given my last foray with Khorne. We didn't quite get to over 160, but they were all good challenging games played in a great spirit.
